Calvary Chapel Eastside Statement of Faith
Calvary Chapel Eastside has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only due to their over-emphasis on the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.
We Believe …
- The only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s Agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. (John 13:34-35, 1 John 4:7-10, Ephesians 5:19-21, 1 Peter 1:22)
The Bible regarding the worship of God
- worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship. (John 4:23-24, Ephesians 5:18-20, Hebrews 12:28, 1 Corinthians 2:10-14)
- worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship. (Hebrews 12:28, Psalm 95:1-6, Psalm 28:7, Psalm 150:6)
- worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshipped. (Romans 10:17, Colossians 3:16, Romans 12:1-2, Matthew 28:19-20)
- worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshipping Him. (John 8:31-32, 1 John 3:14 John 13:34-35, 1 John 4:7-11)
The Bible regarding all the basic doctrines of historic Christianity.
- in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 2:16, Colossians 3:16, Luke 24:27)
- that God is eternally existent in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. that God is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign Creator of all things. (Hebrews 11:6, 1 Corinthians 8:6, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Luke 1:35, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:1-2)
- that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His substitutionary death on the cross, was bodily raised from the dead, ascended back to the right hand of the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us. (Matthew 1:23, 3:16-17, John 10:30, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 7:25, 9:14, Romans 5:8, 8:34, 1 John 1:9, 2:1-2)
- in the personal, visible, and pre-millennial second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. He will return with His saints and set up a kingdom of which there will be no end. (John 14:1-3, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Matthew 25:1-13, 31, Revelation 22:20)
- that all people are, by nature, separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 53:6, 59:1-2, Romans 1:16, 3:23, 6:23, 10:9, John 3:36, Acts 17:30, Ephesians 2:8-9)
- that when a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord. (1 Peter 1:23, John 3:3, Ephesians 1:7&13-14, 2 Corinthians 1:22, 1 John 1:7&9, Titus 3:5, John 1:12, 3:16 Luke 23:42-43)
The Bible regarding the Holy Spirit
- that Jesus pours out His Holy Spirit on all believers, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world. (Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19-20, John 14:16, 15:26, 1 Peter 4:10)
- in the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures, and that they are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines. (Romans 12:3-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-13:13&14:10)
- that believers are to covet the best gifts, seeking to exercise them in love so that the whole Body of Christ might be edified. (1 Peter 4:10-11, 1 Corinthians 12:7&31)
- in the understanding that love is more important than the most spectacular gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless. (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)
